Business Law - Course Description

Interested in the legal environment and how it relates to business? Business Law will study true situations that show you how business and personal law impacts not only business but your life as well. This introductory learning course will help you achieve an understanding of legal principles that you will use throughout your life and how business law impacts your life on a daily basis. The projects for this class will focus on extended coverage of how to analyze legal situations, how to read case citations, how to analyze ethical situations, and legal advice. Additional focus will be on the ever emerging global economy with regards to business law and the impact it has on the 21st Century. This is a fast paced course which will challenge students by combining business law and ethics.

College Accounting uses an integrated approach to teach accounting.  Students first learn how
businesses plan for and evaluate their operating, financing, and investing decisions and then how accounting systems gather and provide data to internal and external decision makers. This yearlong course covers all the learning objectives of a traditional college level financial accounting course, plus those from a managerial accounting course. Topics include an
introduction to accounting, accounting information systems, time value of money, and accounting for merchandising firms, sales, and receivables, fixed assets, debt and equity.  Other topics include statement of cash flows, financial ratios, cost-volume profit analysis and variance analysis.

Prerequisite Course:  Successful completion of Account I and II, or instructor approval. Applies toward graduation requirements of:  1 CTE Graduation Requirement

Course Description:  Interested in pursuing a career in business? Introduction to Business is a
basic business course designed to acquaint students with the activities associated with a business.
Students will gather a basic understanding of general business, economics, entrepreneurship,
human resources, business ethics, the government’s role in business, marketing, and business
finance. Overall, the course gives students a broad exposure to business operations and a solid
background for additional business courses.

Prerequisite Course:  none
Applies toward Graduation Requirements of:  1/2 credit in the state of Montana in the area of
practical arts for graduation (3 college credits CEBU418 College Intro to Business)

Course Content - Do you want to be better prepared for high school, college, and the work force?  This is the class for you.  Computer Applications is a course designed to develop and enhance computer application skills.  Students will focus on the improvement of speed and accuracy while building skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.  In all of the business classes there are several career activities (interest inventories, college exploration, career research, . . .) integrated into the coursework.

Course Content - Advance computer applications emphasizes advanced skills in 2013 Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Access.  Scanners, digital cameras, and iPads are integrated into projects completed during the semester.

Course Content - Accounting could be called the language of business. It is a multifaceted program covering the personal uses of accounting as well as preparation for entry into the business field or into advanced education. Accounting provides an understanding of the principles of the accounting cycle from the analysis and recording of business transactions to the preparation and interpretation of financial statements and supporting data. The course will expose and provide opportunities to use a variety of common accounting forms. Students will work through the opening and closing of books that are related to a small individual service business, as well as a small partnership merchandising business.

Course Content - Accounting 2 is a continuation of Accounting 1. The course introduces the types of business forms and records used by a merchandising business set up as a corporation. Automated accounting skills will begin to be developed through the use of the microcomputer. Students will develop an overall picture of the total process of business systems.

Course Content - Office managers assist teachers in the West, Inc. Office business labs with scheduling, inventories, company resources, record keeping, editing, troubleshooting computer work stations, software troubleshooting, organizing, and peer tutoring.  Interested students must have successfully completed West, Inc. office classes.

This course will fulfill 1/2 credit of the practical arts graduation requirement.

Course Description:  Marketing education enables students to understand and apply marketing, management, and entrepreneurial principles.  Students will be introduced to seven functions of marketing practices as applied in business.  Through a variety of sources including guest speakers, students will put these functions to practice. A computerized virtual business simulation will also be used to further apply marketing skills.  The final weeks of the semester students will have the opportunity to write a business plan by completing a series of integrated hands-on projects that combine the concepts of entrepreneurship and computer skills.

This course will fulfill 1/2 credit of the practical arts graduation requirement.

Course Content - Where does all the money go?  How can I achieve my financial goals?  We can help your son or daughter.  The Personal Finance curriculum includes banking skills, credit cards, car buying, identity theft, payday loans, career exploration, stock market, budgets, spending/saving plans, paychecks, taxes, renting an apartment, borrowing money, internet travel, and several computer simulations.
